HURRICANE LOVE: "EP"

HURRICANE LOVE-  the fresh and talented Swedish six-piece act (2 female, 4 male musicians) and their debut EP at PlayGroundMusic. They are currently recording the sort of stuff that mainstream dreams are made of. Their debut label 5-track EP is as melodic and radio friendly as they come in the year of 2015 as they draw influence from the likes of Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, Muse, etc. The tracks of 'Paradise', 'You Are The Sun', 'Only Human'. -world class arena pop/rock!. Find out more about their debut album and the band. Here's:  Rasmus Viberg

How has the reaction to your EP been so far?

It has only been out for four days so it is difficult to say how the public at large like it but we have only had good reactions from our fans :)

Please inform us about your band situation as the 6-piece. You started out as the dual power-trio? ;)

The band have been playing together for quite a few years but three years ago Rasmus joined the band and from that point we felt that we really had something different. We started to focus on vocal harmonies and our own sound.

Considering there's six of you. Would you say it's a struggle to come up with material?

It all depends on the song really. Sometimes it can take months and sometimes it take one or two rehearsals to get a song where you want it to.

Kindly tell us something about the writing process and what you're trying to achieve with your music and sound

We always write about stuff that's going on in our lives. It often starts with a melody or some small lyrics and then we take it to the rehearsal and build the basis of the song. We're a band of emotions and we really love to touch our audience and we want them to feel as we do while preforming a song. We once got a email from a woman who decided to break up with her boyfriend when she heard our song "Only Human". She wanted to thank us for giving her the strength to leave him.

Do tell us something about the following tracks and your lyrical messages: "You Are The Sun" and "Only Human"

This is a typical love song about a lovely summer night. Two persons meet and fall in love. You Are The Sun is about finding the true love. An opposite of "You Are The Sun". "Only Human" is about a breakup but from two perspectives. You're either the good guy or the bad guy but in anyways we're all only human and mistakes will be made in all of our lives.!

What kind of 'sound', production wise, did you have in the back of your mind prior to recording the EP?

We've recorded a lot of stuff the past 2 years and what we've been struggling to find is the live feeling in a record. This time we recorded almost every song live and we really love the result.

And are you pleased with the final outcome? (sound - production wise)

We are pleased because we think that we have captured more of the nerve that we have when we play live. But we are constantly moving forward and trying new things to get the sound as real and emotional as possible.

What kind of input did your record label have during the process?

We decided on the songs together with our label and their input was mainly on the forms of the songs.... I think.... Long days and nights in the studio kind of makes everything blurr together....

What's the story behind your name and moniker - Hurricane Love?

If you are asking how we came up with the name Hurricane Love? Here is the answer: We were playing around with opposites like light-dark, love-hate and so fourth. A Hurricane is something frightening but Love is something wonderful, they are kind of opposite and we liked it (most of us;). Today we find that our band name actually describes our music quite well :)

How do you measure success in this digital era?

Success in the digital era.... hmmm.....The spreading of our music is important. The more people that get to hear our music the more people will like it and we get to play more live shows and can reach even more people and so on. It is a circle. But that is not specific for the digital era. The messure of succes in the digital era is no different from what it was before it is just that the channels for getting out there has changed. Spotify is really big in Sweden, Youtube, Facebook and instagram are important channels as well. Success for us would be to be able to focus only on the music [Urban's note: Unfortunately Spotify will never be the answer to being able to focus on music only. Portishead - 34 million streams = $2500. ].

How would you describe the live scene in Malmö/Sweden at the moment?

It has seen better days, but there are some smaller more cozy venues that has started come along in the past couple of years. There are still about 3 larger venues for bands to play at here.

Who are your influences and heroes (music-wise)

As a 6 piece band we have so many influences and heroes but when it comes to Hurricane Love we think we are taking influences from bands such as Coldplay, Muse and Sigur Ros and all three of them are very different but very good!

If there's anything you'd like to add, say, please do

Best regards!
Rasmus Viberg
