One of the best Dutch rock guitar players is back on track. Adrian Van den Berg, ex-Whitesnake, ex-Teaser, ex-Manic Eden and ex-Vandenberg, has formed a new band and the reviews for their debut album were all very positive and enthusiastic. Tonight the band, consisting of three young “dogs”, being: Mart Nijen Es (drums), Sem Christoffel (bass guitar), Jan Hoving (vocals) and Adrian (guitar) of course rocked my hometown. This rather remarkable mix of three young dudes and the experienced rocker VandenBerg works very well and gives the band an extra flair; meaning that these four guys really enjoy themselves on stage.

The highly dynamic set kicked off with Line Of Fire and Steal Away and showed directly what the audience could expect tonight: great in your face hard rock with lots of melody. Vocalist Hoving shines with his beautiful Coverdale-like throat and the rhythm section is on fire right from the start. And the leader of the pack, Adrian, has it all under his command; he “controls” the band and he plays his guitar like he has always done; smooth, elegant, melodic and comfortable. One of the highlights is the power ballad Breathing with again a main role for the singer. Other extremely well played tracks are the two Whitesnake covers Judgement Day and Here I Go Again, the latter with an extraordinary high scream from Hoving. Of course the audience was also treated to the greatest hit of the band Vandenberg: Burning Heart also still sounds great in 2015!

All tracks of the debut album were played tonight, with the exception of Sailing Ships, and Leeches turns out to be one of the best songs to be played live on stage.. Was there absolutely nothing wrong this evening then? Well, yes, in the middle of the set there was a drum solo, which I am nor very fond of; it is too seventies for me; sorry… After the regular set the band returned for one more track, being another cover: All Right Now, originally played by the Free ended this amazing rock evening. I am really looking forward to their follow up album and if The Vandenberg’s Moonkings are anywhere in your town/city, check them out by yourself; it is really worthwhile!!
