[19 April 2002] "UNITED - WE ALL COME TOGETHER" |
"United - We All Come Together" is the name of a compilation album to mark the September 11th tragedy. Released in September 2002 through Now & Then / Frontiers Records all profits will be divided between charities for the victims of the attacks and the innocent people of Afghanistan. The project has been put together by Nicky Baldrian who has issued this statement. "In the wake of the assault on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, and the resultant tragic loss of life, rock musicians from all corners of the world have gathered together in a multinational collaboration. They have donated, recorded and organised a collection of songs, with the intention of demonstrating support for the victims and families of 9/11. They are motivated by a heartfelt desire that this collection of songs in some small way may offer a ray of hope and light out of the darkness and despair that was 9/11. This is a musical reminder for us all to never forget how fragile we all are as individuals but also how strong we are "United"." "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will know peace." -- Jimi Hendrix For those of you who still wish to donate a song, the deadline has now moved forward to the end of May 2002 in order to allow artists to complete their tracks. [19 April 2002] NEMELROCK 2 |
Statement from Necessary Productions: NEMELROCK 2 JUNE 7-8 AT RITMO Y COMPÁS (MADRID)
The venue, Ritmo Y Compás, is a little smaller then last year's venue, but with a better quality of sound and lighting and in a more convenient location in the city of Madrid. We would like to thank the people of Now & Then, whose collaboration to make Nemelrock possible is really appreciated. We'd also like to stress that this one will be kind of a transitional edition but, even though we had just 2 months to prepare the festival, we think that final bill will be in no way inferior to the first edition and that all AOR and Hard Rock fans will definitely enjoy it. Doors will open at 8.00 p.m. on Friday, June 7th and at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th but the party, as you know, will last all night! Ticket price will be € 10 on Friday and € 20 on Saturday. As the capacity of the venue is quite limited we advise you to buy or book your tickets as soon as possible. Tickets are on sale in Sun Records and can also be booked via: email ( necessaryprod@yahoo.es ) or phone +34 91724 22 74 (afternoons). At this moment, the following bands have been confirmed: HAREM SCAREM - who will be presenting their fantastic new album, "Weight of the World", and will EXCLUSIVELY play Harem Scarem songs. PULSE - band formed by 2 of the musicians in Bob Catley's band: Vince O`Regan and Al Barrow URBAN TALE - Finnish band that will be playing both nights, one of them playing their own songs and the other night playing their great tribute to Journey show. NEXX - who will also present their new songs. ARIAN - a new Aor-Hard Rock band from Madrid singing in Spanish that could be one of the festival surprises. MR ROOSTER - from Barcelona, another possible surprise. A band more oriented to glam or hard-rock than to AOR, but that will make most of the audience stand open-mouthed. Friday June 7th. 20:00h: Mr Rooster, Arian and Urban Tale (Tribute to Journey) + AOR Party: € 10 Saturday June 8th. 19:00h: Pulse, Urban Tale, Nexx, Harem Scarem + AOR party. € 20 euros. Please don't hesitate to contact Necessary Production with any questions on the above email and phone number. |

This exclusive 2CD version is already available from Racket Records, and is on sale now at: http://www.marillion.com/discog/anoraklive/index.html They've already been flying out of Racket Records, and we have extra staff helping out just to make sure your orders ship as quickly as possible! Don't forget, you can still check out preview of 'Between You and Me (Live)' from 'Anorak in the UK' at: http://www.mp3.com/anoraknophobia/ Like the track? Then email the website to your friends - the more listens we get, the higher we rise on the chart! Our last track reached number 2 on the overall chart, and 'Between You and Me' is already in the top 10 of the 'Alternative' charts! And as a final note, to answer the 3rd most popular email question at the moment: 'Easter' is not included on the Racket Records 2CD version of 'Anorak in the UK'. In order for EMI to release their version of the album into retail shops, and still allow us to sell the 2CD extended version through Racket Records, they required that we gave them 1 exclusive track. After a long discussion, we decided on 'Easter' because it has already appeared on several different live albums in the past, and thought that leaving off the oldest track would be a better alternative than cutting a new one which hasn't ever been released live! We hope you'll understand. Marillion |

[15 April 2002] WILD HORSES SIGNED TO Z |
Z Records are proud to announce the signing of LA's WILD HORSES to an exclusive world-wide deal. The bands current line up is: Vocals: JOHN LEVESQUE [ Shout ]
WILD HORSES released their debut album during 1991 on Atlantic Records, however due to the onslaught of grunge their debut passed by virtually unnoticed. Their debut entitled "Bareback" is now considered by many to be a forgotten gem and is a fine example as to how hard driven blues based rock should be played. "Bareback" was produced by Kevin Olsen and featured Dare's Darren Wharton on Keyboards. All bass parts on the debut where actually recorded by Dokken's Jeff Pilson as are all bass parts to be found on the bands forthcoming release with Z Records. "WILD HORSES are still very much alive and together" states James Kottak "and we are extremely happy to be part of the Z Records family" WILD HORSES will enter the studio during April with a release currently scheduled for late summer ! |
[15 April 2002] OZZY REMASTERS AFFAIR: THE STORY GOES ON |
From Bob Daisley: April 13th, 2002
On behalf of Lee Kerslake & myself, and in response to the recent Osbourne press release, we have this to say. Firstly, we have never harassed the Osbournes and their family, nor have we been abusive or unjust. We have had no contact with them other than our lawyers communicating with their lawyers seeking our royalties due for our performances on the "Blizzard of Oz" & "Diary of a Madman" albums. Speaking of who is unjust, I would like to add that after Lee and I (and of course Randy Rhoads) put our hearts and souls into the making of the above mentioned albums, our credits for our performances on "Diary of a Madman" were intentionally excluded and given to someone else. Performance royalties have never been paid to us.."hence the current legal battle". For Ozzy to remove our performances from "Blizzard" & "Diary" (for yet another re-release) is to tamper with, and rob, the buying public of the original magic captured on a milestone of rock history. Why Ozzy would want to do this to such a classic product is beyond us, and probably most of the people who count - "the fans". The original classic performances are "NO MORE". Be warned! Bogus replacements are now for sale. The originals have been withdrawn. If I bought what I thought was a classic album and found it contained bogus replacements.."I'd want my money back"!!! The classic original versions of "Blizzard of Oz" & "Diary of a Madman" are now history. Shame! Bob Daisley & Lee Kerslake http://www.bobdaisley.com/Ozzy_remasters.html |

[15 April 2002] MARILLION WEEKEND |
From Marillion's Newsletter: Thanks to all of you who travelled from all around the world to Pontins this weekend for the inaugural Marillion Weekend. We had a lot of fun and who knows - we may just do it again! You are a truly amazing bunch of people and you made the weekend the success it was. Even the Q journalist (yes there was one there), commented on how fantastic the fans were and that he had never seen anything like it! Thanks to everyone who helped us out in the organisation and the general running of the events. Hopefully we will put up some reviews and photos on the site in the coming weeks. We were asked many times over the weekend if we were filming/recording the event for future releases - well you can rest assured that we did and as soon as we can we'll let you know our plans for them! We are back in the studio now and will shortly begin work on the writing of studio album Number 13. We'll try and keep you informed over the summer of what we're up to. We'll be taking a short time out to do two gigs in Bonn and Geleen (full details are at http://www.marillion.com/tour), but I am afraid that will probably be all the live concerts we can manage this year! We'll be in touch soon but thanks again for all your love and support. Marilllion |

[15 April 2002] 7 MONTHS |
LA based band 7 MONTHS have signed to Now & Then / Frontiers Records. 7 Months combine progressive time signatures, complex progressions with sellable commercialised melodies that kick some serious arse and stand the test of time. 7 Months was formed in Y2K and are thought of as a progressive rock band of the millennium that walk the edge with a new sound while incorporating the famous progressive sounds of bands like Yes, Kansas, Rush, Saga and Dream Theater. The band was formed by 3 former Musicians Institute attendees in an effort to write songs that refuse to give in to the simplicity factors commonly found in the industry today. Rather, they wanted to provide great Radio playable tunes that were both interesting and entertaining. After 7 months of searching for the right band members, 7 months of writing, 7 months of struggling, 7 months of recording, coming up with a name was simple: 7 MONTHS. Their eponymous debut album will be released in July 2002. http://www.7months.com/ |
[15 April 2002] LIVESAY |
Now & Then / Frontiers Records have also signed the highly rated LIVESAY, from the U.S. Imagine a combination of Dream Theater, Leatherwolf, mid-period Yngwie Malmsteen, Gamma and Y&T and you have the sound of Livesay. The band has opened for the likes of Britny Fox, Danger Danger, Steelheart, Dio, Pat Travers, The Jason Bonham Band, Fates Warning, Saxon and Dee Snider. At the second Dio show, another national band Love/Hate, shared the bill. Love/Hate were so impressed with LIVESAY's show that they offered them an opening slot at a huge outdoor festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guitarist and band spokesman Gregg Livesay had this to say about the signing, "For anyone who may think this all happened overnight, the facts are quite the contrary. This band started 11 years ago so it has been a long road of recording, opening for countless National acts, personnel changes, and lot's of highs and lows in between. It is also somewhat bittersweet for Alan and I because each of us lost our father within the last two years. We would have loved for them to see this happen. I truly believe that the present lineup is the finest group of guy's I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. It is because of their concerted effort and dedication that we have finally arrived at this point and I am grateful to them all." Livesay will enter the studio in the next couple of months to complete work on their first album for the Anglo Italian label. Already finished are seven songs, recorded in Millbrook Studios, New York ( Westworld, Tyketto, Riot, etc ), including a cover of the Gamma classic, "Voyager". The entire album will then then be remixed to bring the quality level up to the highest possible standard. The band has a couple of shows lined up in the near future. Check them out at:- Friday, April 19

[April 4th, 2002] MUSTAINE DISBANDS MEGADETH DUE TO INJURY |
Dave Mustaine writes: "During the first week of January, 2002, while Megadeth was on hiatus, in Texas, I suffered an injury which caused severe nerve damage to my left arm and hand. It was diagnosed as Radial Neuropathy - specifically, a "compressed radial nerve." My doctors tell me it will take about a year to make as complete a recovery as I can, and even then, we don't know how complete that is going to be. I am working hard with a great team of doctors and physical therapists daily, and God willing, someday I hope to play guitar again. In the meantime, while I work on rebuilding my arm, I will take this opportunity to reappraise my career and my future. For the time being I have decided to exit Megadeth, and explore other areas of the music business where I might make a contribution without being able to play my instrument. I have had a terrific time singing and playing for you while I was in Megadeth. I am truly grateful for all of the numerous Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum Records I have been awarded, as well as the many International Record Awards. And I can never thank you, our fans past and present, enough for your loyalty and affection over the years. My immediate goals now are to do what I can to make something good come out of this terrible situation. First and foremost, I want to use this opportunity to devote more time, energy and attention to my wife Pam and my two children, Justis and Electra. Pam has done a wonderful job carrying the load while I was a long-distance husband and father in the studio or criss-crossing the world on tour, but in terms of being a Gold or Platinum parent, I have a long way to go, and I'm eager to get started. In closing I would like to depart with the beautiful French words I wrote on the record 'Youthanasia': "A tout le monde, a tous mes amis, Je vous aime, Je dois partir." (To all the world, to all my friends. I love you, I have to leave.)" |

[1 April 2002] BURNING RAIN OUT, BONFIRE IN |
It is with deep regret that Z Records announce that Burning Rain will not be appearing at Z Rock 2002. Over the past two weeks the band has been searching for a new drummer for the recording of their third album for Z. Unfortunately despite finding a drummer for the recordings the band have been unable to find the right man whom would be available for the English show. With only a few weeks to go Z Records made the decision to make the bands new album the priority, the decision was reached due to two factors namely a] the band would be limited rehearsal wise prior to the show and b] the album needs to be completed by mid May due to Doug's touring commitments with Dio this coming summer. We must stress that the decision was a hard one, as both the label and especially the band did not want to let their fans down, however it was agreed by both parties that the album was the priority at this time. It has also been agreed that the band will appear at Z Rock 2003 or before within Europe. Doug Aldrich made the following statement: "We where really looking forward to Z Rock 2002 as we know it will be even better than last year, and we would like to apologies to the fans but we will see you soon". The replacing act is a band well worth of seeing too, as it is none other than the recent addition to Z's rooster, BONFIRE! |
